Starfish and seaweed - Var Sahakyan

The inspiration behind this work was the idea of fluidity and movement of the body caught in water. And my choice landed on seaweed because their form and choreography tell the invisible story that takes place inside the water below the surface. The star fish brings the warmth to the composition and serves as a warm backlight to the sea weed that are captured in the moment of their dance with teh water. Even though it is a carpet design I have approached it as a painting, taking the holistic experience of the piece as a central priority while keeping the overal design dynamics flowing throughout the entire carpet, that will allow to both view the carpet as a painting and be able to focus on the different parts.

Creation and art for me are the basis of meaning of life. Therefore the thing I enjoy most in art is the creation of something new, something that doesn't exist. In this sense, I embrace with great pleasure abstraction in arts. The passgae below taken from my artistic statement describes mY approach to art.
"It is the freedom in the process of creation that liberates the artist. To know if he created art, the artist has to come out of the process of creation liberated, surprised and with a discovery. Thus it is not a brush, hand or eye that the artist works with – but freedom."
